Bought it from uprproducts.com. And no that shifter wont work on autos, you need the button to press down so you can shift it

I got it for 60 and it's worth it, makes it look much cleaner and better than the ugly stock one. U just have to rewire the OD button. I never liked the look of a knob really

Re: Leather boot on a Auto ?

The leather boot and new shift knob is a great mod for your interior. That stock shifter is terrible.

It is very easy to replace and the o/d re-wire isn't bad either.

I got my shift boot from a 00 manual car at a junk yard for $10.

The shift knob is from UPR Products and works great. I relocated my o/d to a push button switch in the shifter bezel. Just about any spot and and switch will work so put it where you want it.

The boot will be real tight if you have any type of shifter trim ring like the one I have. The autos did come with them from the factory (appearance upgrade package) but were not designed to fit with a boot and the auto shifter carriage underneath the bezel. You can see in the pics that my bezel doesn't sit completely flush with the upper a/c and radio bezel because of that, but it still looks damn good compared to that ugly stock shifter.

yeah man that looks so badass. the stock shifter makes the interior look real nasty. mine doesnt have that trim piece that u got. so any stock leather boot from any 99-04 manual will work right

Re: Leather boot on a Auto ?

Pretty much.

I added that trim ring after I had my shifter boot so if you don't have one you'll be fine.

2 things I encountered with my manual boot were that the end of the boot where the manual knob threads in is smaller than your auto shaft, so you'll have to cut it open with a knife to fit over a new shifter knob.

The other issue I had was my boot had a thin metal plate glued and stapled to the underside of it. Removing it took some time but if you buy a new one off ebay etc it might not have that on it...I didn't have any tools with me so I literally tore the whole thing off the shifter at the junk yard so that might have been a top plate to the transmission, lol.

A couple vendors such as CJ Pony Parts and Late Model Resto used to sell those leather boots for around 40 bucks...might be worth it to check them out before buying a universal that might not fit that well.

I thought about doing this once.. Never tried it. Does the aftermarket knob look like it sits higher/taller than a manual shifter/knob? I'm afraid it would look awkwardly tall. I couldn't really tell from the pics. Lol
