starter, battery, or other?????

My car lately has been taking a long time to start. It turns over fine and starts but it takes like 5-10 seconds before it fires up. whether its cold or warm. What you guys think is the issue? fuel? battery? starter? engine? I want to fix this before it doesnt start at all.

my guess would be a fuel pump. but on the other hand, mine would crank like 6 or 7 times then with the new yellow top thats gone down to 3 or 4 cold or warm.

starter would not be the issue i dont **THINK** because you would not even be getting a turn over.

so i would narrow that down to an old fuel pump or the battey.

try this next time. you know that little whine you hear when you turn the key? well thats your fuel pump. let it finish its cycle before you crank. so that way you know for sure you have fuel in the engine.

Re: starter, battery, or other?????

take it to autozone and have them do a check on your battery, starter, and fuel pump. i had them check my battery, it failed, alternator came out fine. i was happy about that. but they will tell you if anything is wrong.

if it was only happening warm i would say vapor lock. but since its cold or warm im not sure.

mine on the first start of the day took a good bit, but for the rest of the day was almost instant.

i would have the battery checked, if its cranking slow it could be a weak battery or weak starter, but if its cranking normal starter is ok. also check your battery terminals for any signs of corrosion if its there clean those off with a wire terminal cleaner you can get these at the auto parts store for like couple bucks.

It could be a cam position sensor going bad as well.....the computer doesn't know where the cams position is so it just cranks until the engine fires up
