Bolt-ons that affect gas mileage.

Can you experts give me your opinions on which bolt-ons affect gas mileage and how?
Like a cold air intake should increase it by 1-2, right?
Do any bolt-ons have a negative affect?

Under drive pulleys should increase mpg a bit

before anyone says it tuners will not increase your mileage...

We've also had Bama reps tell us countless times that in fact they do..
Yours may not have, but to say none will is just flat wrong.

lol well no offense bud but i was just going by Doug from Bama tunings little interview... he has a video somewhere but here is the written verson

Bama chips? Was that Bama before AM got involved? Cause AM Is in PA..

All I can tell you is what SCT has to say and what the AM reps have said countless times. Their claims are with performance based tunes and not economy tunes.

2010 Stock v6 - 265 miles for the tank.

First performance mod Magnaflows dual car backs brought it down to around 240 miles a tank.

Added BBK CAI and now I'm getting around 275 miles a tank. So the CAI helps a lot with gas

Cai,exhaust,pullies,tuner all will help a bit but nothing crazy the biggest difference is the driver

I actually got 350 miles to my tank last week. Averages out to about 25 mpg. And that's bone stock with oversized bald 16s

No car should fluquate that much theres no way a bolt on will add that much.. depends on how you drive and what you do with that tank. City vs hwy ect.

Ran 93 Octane on an 87 street tune, with CAI, from Greensboro, NC to Columbia, SC and back on one tank, roughly 400 miles round trip, all highway

Yeah "Power" and "Economy" don't really go hand in hand. If you want more power, you will be adding more fuel which means worse fuel economy. Our cars already come "tuned" for economy, it really a matter of all that stuff the BAMA guy said. Tune ups, light rims with good tires, smooth intake and free exhaust, and get rid of as much weight as you can.

LaseRedXD,

All of these guys have definitely provided you with good information. A CAI, Under drive Pulleys, a tune up and a Tune will definitely show noticeable increases in MPG. The problem is when someone adds all these modifications what's the first thing you do? You go rip it up and down the street and everywhere you go, driving like that will get you worse gas mileage.

Your MPG is at the mercy of your right foot. If you are driving to get fuel economy (Shifting at a low RPM, cruising on the highway, not costing in neutral etc...) then you'll see 2-5 MPG gains over stock with just a tune, I've seen it myself on my 04' Mach1. Now if you're red lining each gear, Driving in the city, Stop and go traffic etc.. then no you won't see much gain in gas mileage from a tune. The moral of the story is the gains are there, it depends on the driving habits.
