Low fuel

Okay I have a 2001 V6 with 102k miles. I was just wondering if anyone knew a rough estimate on how much fuel is left when the low fuel light turns on

I've never gone more than 10 miles on E. I'm scared I'll get stranded. Hahah

lol on Top Gear they all hit E and got close to 100 miles out of their cars still. i wouldn't want to try it but i'd love to test out how far it can go if lets say i know i'm gonna replace my strainer in the tank lol..since hitting E usually means you're gonna start sucking sediment

So how many miles do you suggest going on E? I wouldn't like driving in fumes either. My dads s-10 had to get all the fuel injectors replaced because he always waited until his gauge read low fuel to pump gas

My car has a 2 gallon reserve so when you hit E I have about 30 miles until I run out. I wouldn't chance it though lol

As said, running on fumes can cause sediment and all that crap to get into your lines and injectors, which will be much more expensive to replace than buying gas lol.

I've gone ~20 miles after the low fuel light came on...that's more than enough for me.

My tank usually lasts me a week. I drive 20+ miles every day on weekdays. And my job is about 13 miles away and sometimes my low fuel light turns on before I get on the freeway so I just want to see if I could get all the way to work and put gas in after work. I think I'm safe. Thanks everybody

I really wouldn't try to push it far. They probably have it set that way to save your fuel pump. My ex used to run her car on Elmer all the time and burned up fuel pumps constantly.
Me, I fill my tank up, then just nickel and dime it to keep it full
I never run it below a 1/4 tank

I have ran my 2000 out of gas many times and was driven around on low fuel a lot. Never had to replace pump lines or injectors but I also did fuel system cleanings a lot. On my 2004 5 speed I've done a 60 mile round trip to work and back on my low fuel light and filled it up with .3 gallons left in the tank( 15.7 gal tank took 15.4 to fill) definatly not good to run it that low but when in a jam it is possible depending on how you drive it
