SCT or Diablosport

Okay, i'm going to break down get a tuner for my 03 auto. I want to firm up shifts, reset the speedo for gears and tlock, and increase throttle response to hopefully gain better acceleration and a few more ponies.

First, am i on the right track with the tuner, will it free up hp and torque?

If so, which tuner is going to do this better? The diablosport predator or the sct xcalibrator 3.

Any input from either tuner owner would be great
Thanks

SCT...and in 5..4...3...2...1....rwboring will be in here to say why not sniper.

Anyhow..SCT...they both tune just fine, however the datalogging abilities of the SCT are far superior.

Re: SCT or Diablosport

So will SCT give me more power and better acceleration than stock?
Also do the preloaded tunes require premium or better fuel?

Re: SCT or Diablosport

Also, I want to add...while the SCT is the one I prefer, if you have a tuner local to you, you should choose whatever they use...that was my initial reason for going SCT...local guy was SCT only. Now, I'm glad I went because of the data logging abilities over what the predator offered me.

Re: SCT or Diablosport

Don't waste your time with pre-loaded tunes. See my comments in the 02 sensor thread by lowering....

IF you go SCT, go with one from Justing at VMP Tuning. You can get the SCT with 3 custom tunes for your car for basically the same price...or damn near the same price...as a base SCT tuner.

Yes, all tuners will give you more power...and if you go with VMP, you can get one for 87, 89, and 93 octane so you can choose what to run in your car today.

Re: SCT or Diablosport

so is mine..........my 04 has 95k miles on it. i've been running it like that since about 30k miles. it has not shown ONE sign of weakness.........except for a pinion leak, which is taken care of in about a month or so, hopefully.

the car runs just as strong as when i first got it tuned........meticulous maintenance is the key

That too...but I got the impression saving 30 cents a gallon might be on his mind....if I Could run 87 I would be during the week, and then run the good stuff on weekends.

Re: SCT or Diablosport

I just checked out VMPs tuners. It looks like the SCTs come either preloaded or ready for custom tunes. I'll have to call and talk to Justin, maybe I'm just an idiot, the whole tuner situation is confusing to me. I just want the gains to be worth the 400 dollars spent. I do appreciate all your guys input

Re: SCT or Diablosport

The shift point changes alone will be worth it.

Justin is also a member on here...justin00stang I believe is his user id. You can PM him on here.

And you will get the most bang for your buck by getting a custom tune from him over the pre-loaded "one size fits all" tunes that come on the tuner.

Re: SCT or Diablosport

Yah, maybe two 87 tunes, one for mileage, and one for performance, and a third tune for a higher octane.

Re: SCT or Diablosport

You're better off with an 87 tune for mileage then a 93 street tune and then an aggressive 93 tune for the track. I mean, who is going to run 87 and try to get performance out of it? It won't be worth it really.

But, that's all stuff you can talk to Justin about.

Re: SCT or Diablosport

My only question is would the tuner be more effective after more engine/performance mods. Right now i only have exhaust and 245s and 315s if you can even call wheels/tires mods.

I will probably do more mods this summer, and could wait and get the tuner closer to the fall to make it more effective. I could also save on getting a new tune after more mods.

Agree with Kyle, try to get the UDP/CAI/Exhaust all done, then slap on your tune. Gives your tuner few more extra variables to run along with. The better the tune, the better the performance gains.

I'm definitely going SCT.

What's the difference between the safe aggressive and race tunes? Just the way it makes the car run? I would pay prem. for the GT if it makes it's worth it with the tune.

The aggressive, in my case, is my track tune with adaptive learning. my track tune also has adaptive learning turned off so the computer won't try to figure out what it needs to do based on my driving habits. It basically makes it do what it is commanded instead of trying to learn at all....that way you can run on that razor's edge the whole time the tune is installed.

My safe tune is 2 degrees of timing less so that if I get some **** gas I don't start detonating. It's about 15-20 hp less than my agressive tune.

Just let me know if you want me to run street tires or drag radials and whether you want me to run my safe tune or track tune.
