Re: 3.8l v6 mod vs. 4.6l stock

honestly, a good portion of the things you listed aren't gonna do anything.
Your big go fast mods:
4.10 gears, xcal3
"Ok" go fast mods:
T-lok.. no power but helps traction, underdrive pullies
Other very minimal contributors:
CAI, Intake spacer, Throttle body (if you had other mods done, this might be a different story)

You will want to list which year 3.8 vs which year 4.6... as they are totally different animals during different years

Yeah, what years are the mustangs? Also, what kind of race are you talking about? Hopefully 1/4 mile at the track but do you mean stop-light to stop-light or like a highway encounter?

Re: 3.8l v6 mod vs. 4.6l stock

Depending on your tune and your driving abilities, you should be able to keep up with some of the 4.6L's and beat others while also losing to others.

Kyle can beat stock 96-98 4.6L's in his 04 auto V6...so you should be able to beat those as well. He can also run with some of the 99-04 4.6L's in auto form, but loses to the manuals and auto coupes. He does beat the 99-04 auto convertibles though I believe. And he loses to all of the 05+ 4.6L's in stock form.

So, like the bean man said, it all depends on which 4.6L you are referring to.

Off the top of my head....

Big Valve Heads, cam, power adder (S/C, turbo, nitrous), 4.2L rotating assembly, V8 swap....

You're pretty much at the end of the "cheap" power mods.

weight reduction would make him faster... but that can be a long and not very fruitful process. But yeah, Rob has a good portion of the rest of the big go fast mods up there.

Re: 3.8l v6 mod vs. 4.6l stock

A 5-speed 99-04 is a low 14-second car with decent driving, so if he can drive, it's going to take more than a few bolt-ons to beat him... or even catch him.

If you're set on beating him with bolt-ons only, you could add longtubes and a dynotune... and then after that, you're going to have to just make due with less power than him. You'll want to do some weight reduction, and get the suspension set up to really take advantage of the power you do have.

i only lose to the auto coupes after ~75 i cant hang with the 99-04 manuals, coupe or vert.........hopefully i can at least pace them for a little while in a month or two

but yeah....if its a manual and youre an auto........you'd better throw some bolt ons and at least a 50 shot

i took my stock 02 gt to a 13.9 @ 99.8 with a short shifter only 2 days after i bough it on street tires... can you say lucky!!!! i couldnt repeat it again until i put on my catcback then i dropped a 13.88 @ 100.1 and couldnt repeat that again.both of those passes were the first passes of the night. it was pretty weird, the rest of the passes were 14.1-14.0 most of them only run 14.3 on average bone stock.

I would cut 14.1 - 14.2 repeatedly in my 00 GT...stock except a K&N filter and underdrive pulley

No, it was because the track actually prepped their track before people ran on it. This was in NY....where they make a water box you can drive around (unlike capital) and they do more than just hit dripped water and fluids with a mop before you stage (like capital).

Oh, and about 200 or so less ft/lbs of torque.
