Why does my odometer not work?

I have a 1998 mustang v6 and my odometer stopped working last month... i need help fixing it?

Why does my odometer not work?

Your odometer works off of your transmission. The unit that measures the transmission's rotation could have broken. If you want, fix it in a couple months/before you sell it and still claim the odometer was fixed immediately. That way you get more value for your car!

if the speedometer works but the odometer doesn't then the problem is in your Speedometer head. You will need to replace it or send it out for repair.

If the both the speedometer and odometer aren't working then you might have a speed sensor or speedometer cable problem.

If your speedometer is cable driven from the tranny and the speedo works there is a problem in the cluster itself,,, If the speedo is electronic and the speedo works, check the plug on the tranny or the connection behind the dash cluster

Odometers work by electric or cable into the transmission so you need to find out which type you have then you can figure out what to do

isn't that a good thing?? when you sell the car wouldn't you want the lowest milage?
