98 v6 what would cause....

So my 98 has been acting up when I hit 50 or above and let off the gas what would cause it to seem like its braking itself till you hit the gas again and then let off and it does it all over again but if you keep pressure on gas pedal it's fine.

1) you are in a lower gear and essentially engine breaking.

2) something is causing parasitic drag.... Brakes, bearings (driveshaft, gearbox, rear end, etc...), Indicating a failure... Check your brakes to see if under normal use, there isn't one that is running exceptionally hot... Touching your wheel will sometimes tell you as unusual brake drag will transfer heat to the wheel... So if one is warmer to the touch... Could be a stuck piston.

3) you're dragging a body under the car

4) you left your drag parachute deployed.

5) I don't know...
