7.5 Rearend

Should i buy and install a LSD with 373 gear for my stock rearend for like $550 or should i just buy a 8.8 rearend from a GT that is rebuilt with a LSD and 373 gears already installed for $950?

Agreed. You should be able to find one closer to the price of rebuilding your 7.5 with gears and lsd.

the weak link in the 7.5 if the spider gears~ they break... the geras, the axles, etc are all strong and fine (the 8.8 uses the same axles FYI etc etc).

With that said if you EVER plan to take it to the track buy an 8.8 with the gears you want ready to go and swap out for the 7.5 then sell the 7.5 or put it back for a rainy day.

I personally shattered a spider gear in a 3.73 geared Tlok equipped 7.5" rear end on my 01 V6 mustang taking off hard at the track on normal street tires.... not fun

If you do end up with upgrading the 7.5 GET a tlok so you have both wheels spinning (same work basically to install it as gears)

Not to jack the thread. How much power you can get on a stock 7.5 rear end with LSD and 3.73 gear on auto transmission ?

I would say no more than the GTs stock. Once you're at 260 then you should start thinking about upgrading to an 8.8 It also depends how you're running the car, how many miles it has, etc.

I found one from some guy but he says I NEED 31 spline gears or something like that. Would I have to buy tbose gears or will they still fit with my normal ones?

No...factory setup on most 8.8's is 28 spline.

That guy may have installed 31 spline axles which need a 31 spline diff. Gears don't matter, they'll bolt to and diff

He may just be talking about the axles not the whole rear end the Cobras and I think Mach1s came with 31 spine rear ends and the GTs and v6 have 28 spine axles, just that the GT has a 8.8 deff. With that said a 31 rear end axle will bolt up to your 6
