For a couple weeks now something under that hood is making a ticking noise and its driving me nuts. Some days its more noticeable than others...has this happened to anyone?? When im in the car its coming from the right side.
If it's coming from the passenger side, you'll know it's a manifold leak. 99% of the time if it's coming from that general area that's what the noise is. As stated above it's a really common issue with 99-04's.
yes it could be a ticking lifter...easy way to tell...pour a whole bottle of lucas oil stabilizer in your crankcase...see if it gets quieter as you drive :good:
I have this ticking noise too, except it only happens when the engine has warmed up. It's been like this since last summer. When the engine is cold I don't hear anything. It is coming from the passengers side of the engine, anyone know what this could be?
Okay I made it but I sounded like a helicopter and set off every car alarm in the parking garage lol so how do I find an exhaust leak is there something I could spray? And can I use that exhaust repair tape does that stuff work? Or jb weld?
Alright I was talking to some mechanics today and they told me this. Basically the ticking is a lifter that is not getting enough oil too it when everything heats up and expands and said that it won't hurt anything just makes an annoying sound. Also the ticking sound is a sign that you need to change your oil soon.
@SixStang702, the best way to fix your exhaust would be to weld it.
the ticking can happen even just after an oil change even if it's a lifter just to toss that out there..but the mechanics you talked to are pretty spot on if the ticking they are hearing is a lifter.
it can if it's large enough to cause the upstream o2 to read wrong
