Very strange question

Okay, so about 6 months ago i bought my 96 3.8 from somebody who had no idea about cars so i was able to get a mustang for $1000 with 104k no rust at all and runs perfect. He didnt tell me anything about the car so ive been discovering things myself.. Now its always been a little faster than other v6s and the exhaust has a nice raspy sound for a stock exhaust.. Anyways yesterday i hooked up some gauges for the hell of it and realized on the vacuum/boost gauge when i was at idle or low throttle it was about -15 in/hg which is normal vacuum but then it got strange.. When i hit the throttle hard the gauge showed 7-13 psi boost pressure.. I assumed it didnt have any kinda forced induction but maybe im wrong? Deff no supercharger but does this mean maybe theres a turbo on there since somehow mycars creating boost?

---------- Post added at 10:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:15 AM ----------

And dont tell me im reading it wrong because its coming straight from the ecu, all other gauges working fine, and the gauge is reading possitive pressure from somewhere

Can you take a pic of under your hood? And look for any type of turbo but you would know if you had a turbo when you looked under there

Its an electronic gauge coming from the ecu threw the obd plug, its got like 80 different gauges that can be used but it measuring vacuum cuz when i put it in a non turbo car it never gets into the positive range ill post pics a little later

---------- Post added at 03:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:32 PM ----------

And it does measure vacuum( negitive pressure) until i step on the gas ot goes to positive pressure and only when the engines under load

Usually at least the blow off valve. Every turbo vehicle I have driven you can tell there is a turbo, you can hear them spooling up.

I had a 92 civic that some dingbat put a boost/vacuum gage on and it would read boost on a heavy throttle dump (92 non vtec sedan...throttle dump, ha) if its faster than other 6ers, it may have been retuned at some point, and if its a fully electronic gage chances are the voltage is causing it to give a false reading. every mustang 94-01 I've drivens gages have been notoriously wrong. I look at the cluster in my 95 as dummy indicators, I dont think anything but the speedo and tach is right

but get under it and check the exhaust from front to back, it might have a rear mounted turbo but I really doubt it..you would have had to have seen something under the hood to give it away

Yeah the gauges suck. My oil pressure and temperature gauge take forever to activate when I fire up my car, and they always stay right in the middle. Either my car is finely tuned (haha) or the gauges are crap. I want to get aftermarket gauges but I just think it'll look like I'm trying to rice out my interior.

I was gonna say take it easy on OP with the pictures, he's probably working. But it's been two days

Honda guys can be the worst sometimes. lol

Maybe his car has the split port head swap and that might be why its faster than other single port 6's but we won't know until we see pictures.

His computer might not be working either maybe that is why he hasn't posted any pics yet.

Have you looked into the gauge pods? There's some available that replace the clock and go on either side of the steering wheel. They look pretty nice. When I was considering doing a turbo build I intended to put all my gages in my dash where the heater controls and radio are and relocate the heater controls into the armrest. Or just put a ipad mini in the dash with a digital interface to read off the computer..

I gave the honda scene a fair shot...I really did. And,ill admit, they're great dependable cars and you can have fun "building" them.. but id rather go broke putting money into my pony than a car that was designed to be a cheap dependable commuter..

Or can I do it with my phone? I have an iPhone 4S. How can I read my gauges off the computer itself?

Should be able to use an iphone, my buddy has some kinda cord or box or something that hooks up thru his obd2 port or on the port on the ecu like a jumper, then there's apps that go thru it that readout on his screen. Its kinda like a datalogger with real time checkability of all your gages, air intake temp, rpm, a/f mixture..stuff like that.

Yeah, looked it up and it was 120 for the obdII port connector and about 50 for the app. Haha I gotta save up that's very helpful to have. I wonder, if the mach1 port is the same as the new edge v6 port because I'm hopefully getting a mach1 in the near future

I don't see why it would be different but yeah that's what op should use. My guess you can use it for any car with and OBDII port. That would be awesome knowing the stats of my trucks and my cars. Good investment and it also reads codes I hear http://www.automoblog.net/2009/05/16...lytics-device/

The ports the same if they're both obd2. Check with the distributor to see if the thing would work with both ecu's.
