Tire exploded??

I was going to school in the morning had 3 friends in car with me and I had come out of a corner going 55 then tire broke away from
Does anyone know what caused it

That looks like one of those recycled tires. They re-tread them to make them look in better shape. Is your rim alright?

Depending on how low or high you run your air pressure you can stress a sidewall...and if they are weak enough they will separate...saw it alot when i use to work in a tire shop. What size are those btw?

it is possible you got a nail in the tire and didn't notice, I've had that happen, was going down the road then all of a sudden the tire blew around the sidewall, later took a look at it and there was a nail in it.
