It's not that easy. I bought a turner and tried to turn PATS off with a custom tune . PATS must first be fixed at the dealership and then tuned. Trust me I know. The tuner will not even pick up the vin number.
I did not word this in the easiest possible way to understand. Can a 3.8 ECU be tuned for 4.2 settings?

Depends on which route you go, if you swap ecus then yes useless until pats is turned off, if you just dropped your motor in on current ecu and tuned it later it would still somewhat work, but probably wouldn't be very to drive..

BS, you can email Ortiz yourself he will tell you, I even double checked with him this morning

(Just so it's clear I didn't mean you personally can with a tuner, I mean someone who can make tunes can turn it off)

And yes the load just has to be scaled accordingly for the 4.2

WAIT! so you can use a e-150 fuel line on a split port swap. so then you wouldn't have to change your entire fuel system?
Is that all you would need? I always thought you just had to swap out the whole fuel system. Which is why I haven't done it. I don't want to swap out the whole system.
I've found the heads and lower intake for like $300.
I may have to start my own thread. I might just keep my V6 instead of selling it if I can do this.

You don't have to start a new thread, I'm interested. Anything that pertains to a split port also deals with a 4.2 swap, as long as it's a split port 4.2.

Swapping ecu's sounds more exhausting than adding the rpm switch our just dealing with it.

David,
I found a video on your YouTube (came across your car when looking at exhaust clips, lol, not stalking). It's the one where you were getting your car dyno'd and the guy zoomed in on your read out. Your torque curve looks pretty good. I guess I shouldn't worry about the imrc that much.

"nice curves, bro. No homo"

I got confused in my own personal situation. My chip is broke in the key. So my AM tune to turn PATS off did absolutely nothing. My car thinks I am trying to steal it. MY situation does not apply to his. I wanted to clear up some of the confusion I posted.

Thanks for clearing that up, Sam. But you still brought up a good point that I would have overlooked.

---------- Post added at 07:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:01 PM ----------

Since this is my DD, I want to get as much done before I take off work to drop it in. It would be pretty stressful to find out that I have to get a new tune sent to me before I could start it.

All of the cams recommend a tune. You can crank with no tune, which is very convenient.
The 4.2 gets complicated for me.
When I worked at the casino I got recommended a guy who can build a reasonably priced 4.2 with an three year warranty. The heads are maximum air flow heaven. With larger intake and exhaust valves.
The money for the engine was the same for a 3.8 with comp rockers. I get scared of mistakes. Waiting for answers on a form is hard sometimes also. Only a handful know the harder answers.
I love no stress installs

you don't need split-port with the 4.2 it works fine with single port. Split port also gives it more power though.

I will, of course get a new tune. But, if I got one and didn't mention PATS I could have been up the creek.

Lmao the first one had an abnormal reading from the car, the torque curve looks dang near flat, look at the one done at dark it shows a more "true" curve, but yeah imrc's aren't that big of a deal to keep, more trouble than its worth (for your car doing the splitport swap at least) honestly
