Tranny Making Whining Noise

So every time I drive my car, my tranny whines constantly! It drives me insane. I have no clue how the hell to fix this issue. Is it possible the b*tch is going out? Ahhh help

Sounds like a dumb question. But I know people dont always think of the obvious. When was the last time the fluid level was checked?

Is the whining noise coming from the rear?

No in the front, specifically driver side underneath

Auto

changed the transmission fluid, filter, and gasket. Drained out all of the pieces of shrapnel that have been grounded off by the transmission too.

Ok, the main thing that i know of that causes gears to whine like that is the mesh or lack of fluid. What fluid did you put back in when you changed it? and when you changed it did you drain all the fluid from both the tranny and the torque converter? how much fluid did you put back in there?

Mine does the same thing and what my mechanic told me was that in the tranny there is a planetary gear and since the lower gears aren't used as much it whines. He said that it won't hurt anything but the only way to get rid of it is taking it apart and changing it.

That's a project... I'd rather get someone to change it for me. But prob a stupid question but what would you change it too?

That doesn't sound dumb to me, actually, because you'd think that if it was the transmission it would sound (from the driver) more like its on the passanger side. and the power steering pump is right there around the floorboard too right?

does the whine get worse when you're steering?
does the whine get worse when you're raising RPMs (but no load on the transmission)?
or
does the whine get worse when you're driving (and progressively with more load on the transmission)?

In all honesty, it's all 3. Should have guessed about the power steering

I think it's the gear itself but not sure exactly. I don't really care though cause I plan on eventually swapping in a 6 speed

Yes! Have you had your differential serviced? I noticed mine was leaking I immediatly brought it in for a new gasket and fluid swap..my old 99s rear end blew on me, and at the time my father paid for the repair but I remember he wasn't happy with the price lol
