shifter problem?

just recently my shifter became really sloppy and has a lot of play... it's a short shifter but was told by my brother that it is the crappier short shifter that has hinges. Anyways when I am trying to shift into 2nd and 4th gear it is REALLY Hard for me to get it into gear... sometimes it will shift smoothly and sometimes it just will not go into gear AT ALL ... I'm really confused and don't know what it could be... hopefully nothing with the tranny? any suggestions?

What brand is your short throw??? Some brands are infamous for this. When was the last time you serviced your trans??

I just fixed this solution for me, it was my tranny

minor sure what brand it is but I looked deeper and found a screw that was completely unscrewed and laying on the base of the shifter... I put it back in and now my shifts feel smoother and no problems...
