New V6

Okay guys, so I got myself another mustang. My 4th one. This one is an '02 V6. I straight traded my '66 inline 6 for it. I don't know if it was a good or a bad trade but I love my new ride. What do you guys think? I bought my '66 for 3 grand. Payed around 900 in tags and all spent around 2 grand on misc. stuff like new gas tank, rebuild carb, stuff to get it running etc. so in total the car cost me $6 g's. I straight traded my classmate for his 02 V6 with 114k original miles (my odometer read 44k original? Maybe not) mods on the 02 include pypes dual exhaust with xpipe. My guess is hi-flo cats since they are not stock cats. BBK headers, harness bar (no harness) welded strut bar, front and rear sway bar, aftermarket pulleys, TB spacer, 65mm throttle body (I think), engine brace, smoked headlights, drilled and slotted rotors, cobra wheels (no center caps, front two tires are shot and one rim leaks air so I have a spare on it), and I think that's it. The car sounds mean and has a better throttle response than my 01 V6. What do you guys think about the trade?

Yeah, shocks need replacing but she handles better than mine. I'm gonna get new shocks and lowering springs later down the road. Thanks everybody. I was looking to sell my car but the opportunity popped up so I couldn't pass it up. Just normal class conversation brought up the trade lol. I cleaned up the car from the inside now and I'm gonna wash it tomorrow. I'm thinking of trading my bullits for the cobras on the red car. I'm gonna clean out the engine bay as well

I'm gonna get the third brake light as well but I think I'm keeping the back seat off. I already have the harness bar and he put floor covered cardboard as a homemade rear sete delete

Technically stock for stock, the 3.9 is a bit more powerful. Just a little bit anyways.

232 turns into a 239 I think

The 3.8L is 232ci while the 3.9 is 239ci

the difference in displacement comes from a change that ford made to the connecting rods in '01+

It is faster. And I have a stiffer accelerator and more throttle response. My 01 has a misfire having to do with valve seats or seals or something and that makes performance suffer.

So what you're saying is that 02+ V6's are 3.9's? If that's the case, I have a 3.9 engine laying in my backyard with 20k miles on it lol

On my 01, everything says 3.8. I was under the impression that only 04's had the 3.9

i was wrong, is 2004 engines made after october 03:

Quote:
A 3.9 L (237 cu in) version of the Essex V6 was introduced in 2004. It used the same 3.810 in bore diameter as the 3.8 L Essex, but had a slightly longer 3.464 in (88.0 mm) stroke.[1] It was installed in a running change on later production 2004 Mustangs (starting October 7, 2003), though overall engine output was identical. Ford marketing information says that the bore is 3.8 inches and that the displacement is 3802 cc (232 cu in).[5] The bore and stroke, however, work out to 3883 cc (237 cu in).

The difference in the 3.8 and 3.9 is not noticeable in H.P. A little difference in cubic displacement.
Congratulations on the new 2 u ride. People get tired of antiques as daily drivers.

a 4.2 would be better than the 3.9. I noticed the power difference, and I still have single-port heads.

Thanks guys. Oh man I sorta pushed it today while going to the DMV to register it. That CAI, TB, headers, and dual exhaust give it a good kick. If this is how a lightly modded V6 drives, I can't wait to see what a Mach 1 has to offer. I took a friend out to eat today and she had a hard time keeping her head straight instead of buried in the headrest every time I gave it a good pull. And even though the steering rack is a little worn. She handles like a dream. Best handling car I've driven. I can take corners without fear. I took a sharp turn without my car feeling like it was gonna spin out. It has an engine brace, front and rear sway bars, a strut bar welded in the trunk, and I'm pretty sure the harness bar bolted onto the sides helps too. I'm extremely happy with the car.
