Help: Rough Idle and feels like its sputtering during acceleration.

I have a 2002 V6 auto with 55k miles and a few days ago I got the check engine light but the car seemed to be running fine. So I cleared it by removing the (-) battery lead and the next day it felt to be running rough and on the way home from work the check engine light came on again. Went and got it checked at the auto store and they said it was an EGR issue but probably a fluke, so he cleared the code and I went on my way. Last night I got the code again on my way home from work. I took the EGR valve off and cleaned it with carb cleaner and q-tips. Took it for a quick spin and all seemed well. This morning it was running rough again on my way to work. No engine light yet but feel it could turn on soon.

Any help guys?

I bought some spark plugs & cables that I will try to replace this weekend to see if that helps. Wondering if it could be related to the fuel pump, as I just replaced the fuel filter about two weeks ago (yes its on the right way). Maybe the EGR valve is shot and just needs to be replaced?

Sounds like it could be the DPFE (EGR) Sensor. $20-$30 part, so I am going to start there.

could be but an EGR shouldn't really cause your issues. i'm leaning at an unrelated code for what's happening. i'd check the TPS voltage, and clean the IAC, and MAF

it could be clogged EGR tubes as well (the ones on the lower intake) I cleaned mine and my rough ride cleared up for a while. I'm waiting on my EGR Delete plate to come in to see if it fixes my issue. If not then my next trip is an engine compression test to see if it might be valve seats.

you could block it off with two pennies and some liquid sealant. My egr tube cracked. Need to get it fixed so I can sell it.

Changing the egr valve and sensor seemed to fix the issue. Light hasn't turned back on. Hopefully that was the problem. Its was only about $70 worth of parts.

I just replaced the sensor and the valve. Here is the autozone parts, I got the sensor from autozone but the valve from a local parts shop:

EGR Valve Pressure Sensor | 2002 Ford Mustang 6 Cylinders 4 3.8L SFI | AutoZone.com

Duralast/EGR Valve (EGR2004) | 2002 Ford Mustang 6 Cylinders 4 3.8L SFI | AutoZone.com

edit: if the issue continues I will probably replace this next:
