Radar Detector?

I live in New Jersey & i'm looking into buying a radar detector for my stang. Im not looking for one to speed, i'm looking into one just to watch out for cops or speed cameras in general. Currently i'm looking at the Cobra XRS 9345. Does anyone use radar detectors in their stang? Which one do you use? How do you like it? Have you had any experiences where cops hassled you for having one?

I cant remember the thread name but there was one just yesterday real in detail about it. I read a little bit, someone said not to get the cobras and some states its illegal to own one.

With today's technologies, radars are becoming more useless. Their technology is so much better, and now they have planes way high up in the air that can detect you from miles away.

+1. Radars arent even the only thing they use so if you're speeding and relying on that then you're f'd

I have the cobra one and it lets me know when I'm near cameras and stuff and when there's a cop around.. It picks up there radio signals. But if you're driving by one parked on the side facing the highway lanes he can get you without you know. Because he just sits there with his laser or whatever. I only got pulled over once. And it was by a cop doing just that^
But yeah it seems work for me.. Picked it up at my local pawn shop for $35:p

---------- Post added at 04:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:28 PM ----------

But yeah it will become useless soon enough.
Also picks up when there is an "emergency vehicle" coming. Like ambulances and fire tucks..
That comes in handy since I always have my music blasting lol

The Valentine One is hands down the best radar detector money can buy. It may not have all of the bells and whistles like the Passport 9500ix does, but the one advantage it has over any other detector are the red directional arrows which tell you where the threat is, how many there are, whether you are approaching it, have already passed it, and EVEN if it is coming up BEHIND you. Not to mention how strong the signal is. There is always one question that comes up when a detector goes 'beep' which is: 'where is the radar?' 'Where' is critical information, an effective defense starts with knowing where the threat is. With the red directional arrows, it will answer that very question and you will know exactly where everything is. No other detector has the directional arrows. It has already saved me four times in just one day from a 300+ mile road trip and I am more than satisfied. If you want to enjoy the trill of speeding but don't want to get caught and pay the price, this is for you. Just one hefty speeding ticket alone could cover the cost of this radar detector, new or used. You can also send it in for an upgrade whenever there are new features to be added on. Other detector companies want you to throw away your old unit and buy a whole new one. Not V1! When it comes to radar detectors, this may be expensive compared to the others, but you get what you pay for.

But be warned: if you do end up buying one of these, or any other top-of-the-line detector, it does not make you invincible from the long arm of the law. The police can still use instant on and laser, which can be very difficult to almost impossible to avoid. And to all of the people complaining about getting tickets and saying that it is useless or will soon be: THIS DETECTOR DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE UNAVOIDABLE ADVANTAGE TO GO 100+ MPH ON THE HIGHWAY OR BREAK ANY OTHER LAW. If you expect any detector to pick up everything you encounter with a good enough time to react, then you have unrealistic expectations. This is only a device that is supposed to help you adjust your speed accordingly when driving. But I also have some pieces of advice to help you avoid any instant on situations and possibly getting nabbed by POP or laser.

1. Do not stand out from the crowd by going excessively fast, this makes you the primary target and easier for the cop(s) to find you.
2. Use the other drivers on the road as bait, let them go somewhat faster than you so if there is an officer nearby, they will go after the faster one instead of you.
3. Laser can only be used when at a standstill and head on, the officer cannot use it when he/she is moving or by the side.
4. Make sure the detector has a clear, unobstructed view in the front and back.
5. Avoid placing the detector in front of window tint, as it has been proven and known to dramatically reduce range.
6. Try to travel in clear, sunny weather as fog, rain, and snowy conditions also reduce the performance of the detector.
7. If you pick up any band at a moderate to high strength rating and it goes away shortly after getting the signal, chances are there is a LEO using instant on, so this is your cue to slow down and play it cool before its too late.

There may be a few other tricks to help you get the most a radar detector, but all in all, that's all there is too it. Lastly, before you decide to buy it ANYWHERE, go to the main website at valentine1.com to get the best price on a new V1, because for some reason Amazon and eBay seem to charge more than the $400.00 price tag. One thing you can also do (which is what I did last week and highly recommend) is: if you have an old one, sell it on eBay and use that money to get a whole brand new one so you don't have to pay full price or wait for the used one to be serviced and then be shipped back. So what are you waiting for? Get one! Like a good neighbor, V1 is there! Because "beep" is not protection.

That sounds like one good radar! I have a viper little one lol it tells me direction I am going lol but not where cops are! Just alerts me saying (Ka, POP, emergency vehicle, K and X alert)

Thanks for the imput! Right now, i ordered the cobra xrs 9345. Its my first radar and it was only $70. I'm going to see how i like them and then i might looking into the Valentine 1. Im still worried about getting pulled over and cops writing me an "obstruction of vision," ticket if they see that im not doing anything wrong and i have a radar haha.

Yeah, just keep an eye out for any patrol cars that may be following you. I had mine on and went past a cop once (even though I was obeying the law and driving safely) and he started following me. I assume it was because of the detector, even though his radar was off. The moment I saw him about 75 yards behind me and catching up, I immediately took it off and hid it under the seat. He still followed me for some time, but I got into a left turn pocket lane to make a U-turn and he gave up.

+1 on the valentine 1. I bought mine a year ago and it might be the best money I've ever spent. I don't speed very often but when I do I pay close attention. They're the most useful on highways

Yes, the Valentine One is most useful in rural, open areas like the highway whereas the Escort 9500ix is best for urban areas

The one i have picks up laser as well, but if it pickes it up and he's using it on you, your already caught, any radar detector is only worth its weight in situations where there are more people around you, (someone ahead of your for the cop to scan) otherwise all it will do is tell you that the cop has caught you

If your driving in the city, some of the motion detectors used in businesses, will be picked up. So driving around the city at night will set off your detector.

If you do get pulled over, some officers will see you have a detector and will look harder at you, since he pulled you over. So if your Tang has anything else not conforming to the State's Vehicle Code, you can bet you will be in court shortly.

Yeah it does pick up businesses but for those on mine it sends out different signals. Mine doesn't just beep it tells you Ka, K, X, and POP

So now all you have to do is figure out what law enforcement jurisdictions use in your area and hope they don't switch from top of the line to old stuff off of the shelves, that still works. Most motion detectors use the K band.

I run one, it has saved me a lot it has front and rear detection so they can't sneak up behind me which they've tried, but you can only go as fast as the car in front of you, when they get popped by radar or laser your detector will go off. Just use common sense if you get one. It don't see around corners and it don't see planes lol.

If you don't want false alarms all the time which are annoying as hell get a Beltronics
Pro 500 , it has GPS built in , this radar detector is light years ahead of thecompetitionn.
This thing is so smart it senses your speed and switches from city mode to highway mode automatically , simply amazing. It's not cheap at around 500$ but worth every penny , probably saved me 1000$ already in speeding tickets and I have only owned it for around six months , where I live going 20 km over the limit is warranted with a 200$ fine so having a radar detector is certainly in my best interest.

It'd be cool if the iPhone had one built in it and Siri would let you know when a ip is nearby!

Cops where i live will pull you over if it even looks like you have one... And if you try to hide it they search the rest of your car. This happened to me
