Weird problem

Trying to figure out what's going on with my friends 02 v6. Every now and then while driving his a/c will shut off and the needles in the gauge cluster will all reset and go down to zero as if he just started the car. Could this be a problem with the alternator? thanks

Possibly a alternator problem.

I just had this happen along with some other problems such as bad starts. It turned out the battery was just so gone that it was doing all of it. I would try that first as I had mine tested and they said it was fine, only to figure out later it was the problem.

yea I would think it was the battery if it was having a problem starting but it's not. but doesn't hurt to have it tested.
