It requires a bigger hood, due to the size of the intake, plus it's metal which will get warmer as you use the car, the plastic windstar never at any point becomes uncomfortable to touch with a bare hand

Windstar > 4.2 intake

Windstar > 4.2 intake
The long runners make the 4.2 a better choice.
More air in, more air out, and more gas produces better results.

Long runners = torque
Short runners = horsepower

By all means if you want to do it go for it, I'm not saying don't, just that the windstar is better, you'll need a decent sized hood to clear the giant metal 4.2 intake

Yea, the Windstar is a easier sell. Most people do not want to buy a Cobra racing hood for a v-6 intake. I just love how easy the tires spin for the first time, on my old 150,000 mile engine with the 4,2 intake. Either the Windstar or 4.2 are the best mods for the money. With the exception of free labor and a cam.
I got lucky $50.00 got me a 4.2 intake with minor work. Now the Cobra R hood can be bought on ebay for $400 or less. The same investment as the Windstar intake.

I have a friend who is making them (or at least was, moved so its kinda slow right now) think he wanted like $250 (iac relocated and some other stuff included iirc, message me on fb Sam I'll get you in contact with him), of course anything you can do yourself will be cheaper just as long as you can do it right.

I would do it myself but is be scared of fabricating something dumb and messing up my engine with it. I'd rather get a plug and play kit. And then learn to do in another NE. Yeah I'll message you in a bit, thanks

You can find 4.2s on Ford F150s.
All you need is:
a few feet of wire
a dozen crimps
2 foot of vac. hose
a few hose splitters
A 4.2 cold air intake
2 small pieces of metal for the ermacks and coil pack
or go with the 4.2 coil pack bracket and new 4.2 spark plug wires

If its got six cylinders, its a 4.2. THe intake manifold is fat like a elephant.

I thought you built the Windstar!lol
Why didn't engineers use a Windstar intake manifold in a F-150 4.2?

That was back when I just had bolts and a crappy bama tune versus a guy with the same mods just a stock intake and an actually better dyno tune

soooo pretty much 4.2 intake if i want to pull a trailer with my car or windstar if i plan to track it. well that pretty much answered any questions i would of had. although i don't think it'd clear my STB so i probably will never worry about it.

What makes the Windstar have great horse power is the variable length intake manifold. An engine's induction system can be designed to improve the location of peak torque within its RPM range by altering the intake manifold's plenum volume, runner length, and runner diameter. Long and narrow intake runners will result in lower RPM ratings, while short and wide runners will result in higher RPM ratings. The 4.2 manifold is not left in the dirt. Depending on what R.P.M.s a person wants peak performance at decides the intake manifold.

F-150 4.2 4950 rpm 205 hp 3700 rpm 255 tq
3.8 Windstar 5000 rpm 200 hp 3000 rpm 230 tq
3.8 mustang 5250 rpm 190 hp 2750 rpm 220 tq

more air in + more air out+ more gas=more power

Rtunes Matte Black / Red 97-03 F150 4.2L V6 Short Ram Racing Air Intake + Filter

Type this in to find your intake on ebay. I always have a problem with external links on this sight. You will need to cut a few inches off the intake, but that is down the road. If you don't it will sit right in front of the tire. Trust me the air filter will get water in it there.
Wait till you rev it up to five grand and pop the clutch
