Idle problems

Hey guys im new to the site I have a red 99 v6 and some of the time it'll start idling at 300 to 400 RPMs it usually idle at like 700 to 800. I thought it was bad wire connection to the battery but everything looks right. It gets so low that the lights dim till I rev it up then the lights brighten but then it find back to a low idle. Any ideas on what would cause it.

I'm not totally sure, but it sounds like your alternator is going out.

Check your iac to see if its clogged. I think it uses a shradder valve and could get gummed up and not allow proper airflow.

Thanks for the input guys and im not real good with acronyms so what's an iac and I don't think it's the alternator because it doesn't do it all the time just at random

Idle air control valve. At idle the throttle body is closed, so ford uses the iac to route air into the intake for idling. Follow the air intake to the intake manifold, there will be a littler hose branched off that goes into a solenoid before the intake manifold. The solenoid , or valve is the iac. Take it off and clean it with a solvent. Mine is off the side of the intake manifold is the first one closest to the right. There will be a connector on it.
