Bought a 2001 v6, has true duals. It comes down towards middle as true duals then turns into 6 inches of 1 pipe then back to two pipes. I'm not sure what to call this... Also has dual borla mufflers. It's too quite but sounds like a v8. What is this pipping called and what mufflers should I get to make louder but still sound like 8???

Maybe it isn't true dual? And you won't be able to make it sound like a V8 unless it's a V8 :/

It's true duals, I got underneath it when it was on a rack and the set up is GORGEOUS but it's weird. It's a Y then when gets the the middle it's an upside down V. Idk if it's considered x pipe?

Dow your kit look like this?

http://www.americanmuscle.com/pypes-...t-9604-v6.html

If so it's not true dual exhaust. A true dual will have a Xpipe or an Hpipe

It's like a x but the point where the two lines meet in the middle, it goes stays on pipe for 6 inches then crosses out again like the rest of the x

If it goes down into 1 pipe then it's not true dual, it's a dual exhaust conversion but not "true" dual exhaust

It has two pipes coming from the headers, then 6inch of single which must be the connection to the cat back cuz it then comes back out to one pipe on driver side with borla muffler and one pipe on passenger side with borla muffler.

That make any difference? I need to figure out if my exhaust is even worth keeping, what mufflers should I put on for a head turner for a great sound? Not a import sound

It gives u a small boost in rwhp. It uses the factory Y pipe to connect to the dual exhaust. If u look, all the kits I see from am are this way.

I sounds good at 2500 to 3k when rev, but it's too quite from the borla mufflers, so I need to get different mufflers to increase sound but also not sounds poppy

What u probably need is a muffler delete (if its not already done) with a good set of borla axle backs. The borla's shouldn't be quiet.

For true duals tho and to separate it from that y pipe, it will have to be h or x. How does h or x affect emissions? Isn't that done based upon ur o2's in the cats?

The h pipe from what I heard for some reason is too loud for the California decibels and theirs not much back pressure so it allows some emission to get thru, in CA having an older car is hard to own, they set the emissions sooooo low u basically gotta run multiple cats now

---------- Post added at 09:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:18 PM ----------

My ranger has two mufflers now and my mustang has two, that tells me Cali SUCKS

Dang. Then it sounds like the only way to change the sound would be to change the whole setup, keeping the factory Y.

Pics of your setup?

Just find a place and ask about the "special" smog. My whole intake and exhaust is illegal in Cali but I get around that. I have a friend whose uncle owns a smog place. Pay $150 for my smog but I pass.

Modified intake, BBK shorties, pypes xpipe, hi-flo cats, pypes mufflers. Sounds mean but I still want louder. And the whole setup is illegal in soviet California
