Would it be possible to put a 1990 5.0 engine in my 98 v6

Its not impossible to do no. But what you need in order to do it is a 94-95 v6/gt k member. Depending on the tranny im not sure. Either carb it or find a 94-95 ecu and wiring harnesses.

I've see a 5.0 in a 99

new engine,1.7 rocker arms,Pipes exhaust, shorty cats , shorty headers,under drive and overdrive pulleys,4.2 upper plenum, throttle body spacer, cold air intake, stage one clutch, shorty shifter, and tune. 8.8 in storage

You could successfully put a 7.3 powerstroke into your mustang lol any engine will work if you create the right motor mounts, have the ecu, matching drivetrain/rear, and some mechanical knowhow. You have the whole 1990 car so this should be a very simple swap for you.
