Looking at Rear Ends

I have been looking for an 8.8 with 3.73 gears for my car. I only found one 8.8 around me with 3.27 gears, these are the same gears that are in a stock 2000 v6 right? He wants $300 and I was wondering if this is a good price for a stock GT 8.8 and what should I expect to pay for an 8.8 with 3.73 gears already installed?

Yes the 3.27 are stock for a v6. It's going to be hard to find a gt rear with 3.73 already installed. They'll probably want $500-$650 or somewhere around there. That's the going price for here. $300 isn't too bad but ALWAYS try to talk the person down. If offer $225 and go from there. If you do but it remember to rebuilt the rear by changing the fluid and such

Ok thanks, what is an average price for installing gears not including the price for the gears if I were to get an 8.8 with the stock gear ratio and change to 3.73?

$200-$300ish. Call around your local reputable shops and get quotes so you know for sure. Couple be cheaper

Ok thanks I will do that, but I found an 8.8 with 3.73 gears for $500 but I will need to ship it from Kentucky to Pennsylvania, that will probably be around $150 -$200 is $650-$700 still a good price?

It's the diameter of the rear housing. Larger gears = more strength. A v6 comes with a 7.5" rear

That's really weird then. You're positive you have 2.73's?

Yeah I know I have 2.73. My mechanic friend looked at my car and doesn't know a thing about mustangs and he said they were 2.73 so he wasn't biased or guessing what they were lol

Hmm. I don't know how to explain that lol. Get a gt rear with 3.73 or 4.10's and you'll be crazy happy with it's performance!

I know I want to but I'd need a tuner too so it'd be a lot of money at once /:
