Shocks?

My car is really riding rough. I was wondering if is supposed to have stiff suspension and ride rough or have a smother ride. When I push down on the back end it just comes back up, that's it! I don't know of any other test for shocks.

Yes it does, it's stock except for what little I've done to it.

Our cars are more than 10+ years old, most likely the shocks are shot, I just did mine yesterday and the ride is smooth now. Even my braking has improved. I recommend changing them, they don't last forever.

I ran Gabriel ultras, only because money is tight right now. But for a economical shock and strut combo it's better than stock even with a drop.

And cobra front brakes, ford racing aluminum intake , under drive pulleys, and a whopping 5 hp over the gt, the bullitt is a bad *** car tho, the interior on these cars is bad *** and pretty comparable to the cobra!

It was rated at 5 over, but the way most were dynoing it was more like 270-275 to the crank.

Well I got a set of those Gabriel Ultras today and the Mrs. is going to leave it home tomorrow so I can install them. I got my shop ready (cleaned out a spot) for the swap. I'm going to put her up on jack stands (the car, not the Mrs.) and rotate the tires while I'm at it. Can't hurt and I don't know when the last time it was done.

I just picked up my car tonight. It's a 96 Cobra with 46K easy miles. I thought the original shocks and struts would be fine. But mechanic showed me the struts were weak.

I went with H&R Sportline lowering springs 1.5". New eurathane isolators and used low miles BILSTEIN shocks & struts + Golden West Suspension full length SFC. Love the new height and handles like a sportscar now. Calling to get it aligned Love the feel of it now. Can't wait to really hit some on & off ramps at double speed.

I hear you SpeedyG! I am now sporting a new set of Gabriel Ultra shocks and struts and they make a world of difference. I tried them out when I got finished and my wife is checking them out now. I sure would have thought the factory shocks would have lasted for more than 52,000 miles.

When the mechanic pulled my factory shocks and struts from my 96 Cobra he said they were weak. He showed me almost no resistance in one of the struts. Only 46K miles but 17 years old.

I think I got a good quality shock for what it is being used for. The old ones were all shot and very rough. I replaced them with Gabriel Ultras all the way around. I think they are great! It may be that the old ones were just so bad. They are on my wife's car and she thinks I'm a hero, so all is good.
