My car is really riding rough. I was wondering if is supposed to have stiff suspension and ride rough or have a smother ride. When I push down on the back end it just comes back up, that's it! I don't know of any other test for shocks.
Our cars are more than 10+ years old, most likely the shocks are shot, I just did mine yesterday and the ride is smooth now. Even my braking has improved. I recommend changing them, they don't last forever.
I just picked up my car tonight. It's a 96 Cobra with 46K easy miles. I thought the original shocks and struts would be fine. But mechanic showed me the struts were weak.
I went with H&R Sportline lowering springs 1.5". New eurathane isolators and used low miles BILSTEIN shocks & struts + Golden West Suspension full length SFC. Love the new height and handles like a sportscar now. Calling to get it aligned Love the feel of it now. Can't wait to really hit some on & off ramps at double speed.
When the mechanic pulled my factory shocks and struts from my 96 Cobra he said they were weak. He showed me almost no resistance in one of the struts. Only 46K miles but 17 years old.
I think I got a good quality shock for what it is being used for. The old ones were all shot and very rough. I replaced them with Gabriel Ultras all the way around. I think they are great! It may be that the old ones were just so bad. They are on my wife's car and she thinks I'm a hero, so all is good.
