New help on mods...

I'm buying a 1998 sixxer 5 speed this weekend for $2700 and was wondering what are the best mods for the v6's to get the most out of the car. Should I get a intake and tuner first or like a stage 1 or 3 clutch? Any suggestions are appreciated.. Thanks Click image for larger version

New help on mods...

Do not get a stage 1 or any kind of stage clutch right now, you may never need that with the power this car makes. I would for sure say cai and tuner and then some appearance mods tint the windows, new wheels, etc...

---------- Post added at 05:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:25 PM ----------

Maybe not new wheels those ones are pretty good. Does the car need a new clutch?

Ok thanks because the clutch was one of my top things at first. Would converting it to dual exhaust be worth it?

Yea do not get a performance clutch, there is no need for one on a stock car. Personally I love the look of dual exhaust so I would say yes just because of that. But performance wise there will be no gain but while your back there you could throw on a set of aftermarket mufflers.

This is my first manual transmission car so that's why I was wondering about the clutch. I used to have a sn95 gt auto. What does the different stages do exactly? Shift time or how powerful the shifts are?

The greater the stage the more power the clutch can handle. So a stage one like mine will handle 430tq.

Also at higher stages I would assume the shifting will get stiffer and stronger. I know mine did when I made the Change

Well first of all I would want to see receipts for all the work and receipts for the high flow heads. I would also ask him what he means by long tube shorty headers? It's either they are long tubes or shorties......on top of all that I would get this car checked out by a good mustang shop, to make sure all **** is true. Seems like a lot of work and money into this v6 to be only selling it for 2700 bucks.

Something doesn't seem right. That's awfully cheap. Well around these parts it is. How many miles are on the car?

If it has high performance heads and a cam, it will have a tuner or chip. Professional heads, cam, and tuner run about $2700. Some high performance heads do not respond well at lower rpms. So Take it for a drive and see how it rides.
heads:1100/1750
cam:400
engine stuff for cam:150/250
tuner or chip:300/400+150/200 cam tunes
Ask him what rear end it has in it. Probably a 7.5 the 8.8 is a great upgrade if you want to go fast. You can pick one up at a parts puller recycle yard. This will be the best mod for your money.

If you have a buddy or a family member who knows a lot about cars take him/her with you. Make sure everything checks out okay before you even begin talking cash

It does sound sketch but I think he is being truthful and that is all that is wrong. I hope that's the case because I will be screwed if it isn't. Lol I want another mustang though. I can't stand not having one. I have missed mine since I sold it for a truck to dirt bike ride with friends but now I'm getting back with the community and getting a mustang.again.

New help on mods...

Have you heard what our cars exhaust sound like in person? If you have you would probably be able to tell if he has changed the cam. Ask him if he has any receipts for the head work and if he has flow numbers for them. Also $2800 is a pretty good deal even if he is lying about the heads and cam if the car is mechanically sound. Also you could post pics of the headers and I could tell you if they are longtube headers.

You should tell him you are a serious buyer, but want it checked out by a mechanic first. DO NOT use his own mechanic. Tell the mechanic about buying it and needing it checked out first. Tell him to put it on a diagnostic machine, test driven, and an all point inspection. If everything checks out buy it. Plan on buying it the day you have it checked. This usually cost $60-100 and worth every penny.
