"Shories" verses "longtubes" can depend on the cubic inch size of the engine, and RPM range you want to produce (more) power in. Shorties work well with smaller displacement engines, such as the V6 in the midrange RPM band. Longtube works good in the upper RPM range for both small and bigger displacement engines. However, engines differ in this "theory", depending on intake and head characteristics.
The best way to know how well your engine will perform to which type (headers) is to gather as many dyno results with both, and compare to what modes (if any) you currently have.
