All of the 3.8/4.2 use the small block bolt pattern as the small block 302/351 v8. The transmission will bolt up and will work. How long though is the question. I've heard the auto transmission is bullet proof, I don't know how it would handle a v8. I do have an old 5.0 that makes less power than the current v6 though. That would be pointless to swap in a weaker engine just to to have more cylinders.

I'm thinking about putting a v6 back in it and throwing on a turbo?

Also the engine mounts and kmember from your 85 will fit in your 95. I recommend buying a 94 or 95 mustang transmission and bell housing. They changed them for the 94/95 5.0's.
If you really want to make power you should get a 351 block, the 302 block cracks around 400hp, the 351 cracks around 700 hp, and can be stroked up to a 427.(302 can be stroked up to a 347)

That is the weakness of the motor. People sell stroker kits for the 5.0. And some times the block cracks. I don't know how to tell if you have a weak block.
