I have a 2000 v6 and it is my first car. I think it is a great first car, because it's fast enough for a first car and as you become a better driver there is room to grow.

Yea, you should be able to get one for that price. If you find a car you are interested you can post it here and we can help you determine if it's a good deal.

Yes definitely. My first was a 2006 base with 70,000 miles. $9k, but had ab $2k in repairs needed to be done (not badly).

I believe it's a good first car. I had one when I was 18 for my first car a 99 v6 but soon you get used to the power and you want more.

It's a good car. But you'll get used to the power quickly. I drove a truck for about a year when I got my license until I got my 01 Bullitt right after I turned 18. Got used to the power very quickly, but I'm also glad I started on a truck cause I had road rage for a while. I calmed down once I got the Mustang.

I would be more inclined to suggest a foxbody gt. That is, if you plan on wanting to mod or learn how to wrench. Parts are cheap and everywhere if you need them, and you could pick up a decent example in your price range.

If you just want something reliable to get you from A to B with no particular excitement inbetween, a 2000 v6 would be perfect. It's powerful enough to be fun for a bit, but not enough that it will get you in trouble. It's also probably cheap enough on gas and insurance that you'll have money to burn on other things or save for a rainy day.

First car

^^+1 to all that, I would not rule out a gt unless your parents aren't willing to buy you one. I'm assuming your parents are buying you this car? If not and this is all your money then for sure get a gt if you can afford the insurance and gas

A V6 Mustang is a great first car. I bought my 2004 V6 for $6,500. It only had 67,000 miles, and LOTS of extras. Like the others have mentioned, you'll get used to the power fast. But if you want more, I suggest a CAI with dual exhaust and a tune. It'll give it a nice kick. There are lots of other mods, but emission laws are strict here in CA. Now that I'm a better driver, I'm saving up for a 2015 V8.

If it is truly your first car ever then definitely go with a V6. No offense but we are all bad drivers to start and more power = more danger. As for the year I think that is a great year. I actually like that body style better than the 2005 and I had a 2002 V6. My first stang although it was at 35!

My only advice is make it yours. I like to make my car set apart from others of the same make. That doesn't necessarily take allot of money. Just take pride in it and do little things as you can to make it yours.
