^^ that is a opinion based question, might sound bad to me, but you might like it. Are you running stock mufflers?

I suppose that would be determined by the ears that are listening to it.
As Adogg suggests, find a vid with decent sound quality so that you can get an idea of how it will sound to you.

And the tradeoff is the romantic glow of the check engine light.

^^ this is sometimes true, but you can get the engine light not to come on. Mil eliminators or tuner.

I went with no cats for a while. The average person will think you have a v-8. Don't expect to foul anyone who knows anything about cars. Sounded like a 78 Ford truck.

Has anyone removed the cats on a divorced dual setup? I have only heard O/R X and H pipes.

You will more than likely have to do this yourself. It is against federal law to remove cats without replacing. I am not saying no shops will do this. 98% of the shops do not want to chance being fined.

Maybe think about swapping it out for an aftermarket one such as flowmaster, borla, etc... If you looking for a little more sound with not as much work. Or do dual exhaust conversion with two aftermarket mufflers!!

I installed a jegs 2 1/4" offroad h-pipe with 2 1/4" thrush welded chambered mufflers on my 98 v6. It had a good sound to it and no highway drone with 3.27 gears. My original set up was stock gt h-pipe welded to my stock cats with stock gt mufflers. It was to quiet for me.

my setupsounds like ***. 95 manifolds h pipe, no cats at all, and a stock bullit catback. Even with the stock v8 catback it sounds like complete ***. I even cut my h-pipe(jegs brand) and made it a divorced setup. purely for the size, I many add some 'high flow' cats just to help sound. The tuner took care of the code

Can you be more specific Samuel? Is that a '78 Ford truck with or without a bad exhaust leak?
