Unhappy lil shifting problem

I have a 98 v6 automatic and it just started sticking in first and if I'm going like 60 on the freeway and step on it to pass it shifts to far and pushes the tack into the red then once I take my foot off the gas a few seconds later it shifts back to the proper gear

Any advise would be great I would prefer any option that doesn't require removing the tranny cause I don't have a lift but have the tools if it's the only choice

First thing to check is the fluid level. Make sure it is done correctly. Can't remember if ur car needs to be at idle and in gear to check level or not. Read up in the manual. But def check to see if ur low on fluid.

Did you crank it up, leave it in neutral, wait a few mins., and check the dip stick

I drove about 1/4 mile to a level parking spot put the shifter through all the gears then back to neutral and checked the dipstick and it looks like it covers all the white plastic
