Ticking problem

Alright some background information. Engine has 171k. Heads and gaskets done 1500 miles ago.

Here's my problem, it sounds like a tick coming from the top of the engine can't pinpoint exact location. When it first started doing this my check engine light came on. A week later my check engine light turned off and the noise disappeared. Check engine light hasn't come on since but the tick came back so I sea foamed my oil and changed it the next day and put in Lucas Oil additive (I use 5w-30). The tick went away for a couple days. Tick comes back and has been for about a week. It'll do it randomly though, sometimes while idling sometimes not. Sometimes when accelerating and sometimes not. Usually doesn't at cruising speed. Any ideas? It's utterly annoying.

Has to be the manifolds, try tightening them more and check for cracks or leaks.

+1 my mid pipe cracked right above the catalytic converter on the passenger side on my 98. Started off as a small tick then eventually showed itself.

If you have a bad lifter you have to remove the upper and lower intake, then remove the pushrods to be able to get to the lifters. Its a project.
