Help tranny issue.

I recently purchased an 01 v6 with tranny trouble... When you take off in drive it seems to hesitate till bout 2500 rpm then it starts to shake and slams in gear and takes off.. Occasionally it does hesitates when shifting into lockup. It takes off perfect about half the time... I tried putting it in 1 and same thing. And I tried 2 and it still does it... Once you get going it is fine and if you floor it it will get up and go for a sixer. I'm a little puzzled by it.. I would think if first gear is going out it would take off fine in 2. Is it tranny or converter? Try fluid change? All help appreciated.

My tranny did that for about a week and eventually all forward gears went out. Best of luck maybe you can find a problem, I ended up just replacing mine.

Me? I'm currently looking at attempting to rebuild that one since it's been laying around my garage.

Someone taught me how to know wether it's the converter or something else, you need to drive the car to the rpm that will cause the vibration, stay on the same rpm and while your leg is on the gas pedal, slightly touch the brake with the other leg, if the shake is gone then that's the converter, if the shake still there then it's something else!
