Question Need help with a problem.

My wife bought a 2002 mustang v6 5 speed from a lady last year. When you tried to take off fast it would hardly go into 2nd gear. But if you drove normal it would shift just fine. The other day I was coming home from work in it and it acted as if it ran out of gas. Just sort of stalled on the highway and then it sped back up. Right after it sped back up it started making this loud noise ..sort of a squealing sound but the car was running fine and wasn't overheating.By the time I got home which was only a couple of miles I noticed it was more of a grinding metallic sound coming from the area of the transmission and when I got out of the car at home it smelled like transmission fluid when its hot. Nothing is leaking out of it. It still shifts fine but as soon as you start moving you can hear this sort of metal on metal sound and the faster you go the louder it gets. Any ideas as to what it could be or what I should check.

So it shifts rough when you accelerate quickly.
It stalled at highway speed and smelled strongly of transmission fluid burning and sounded like metal grinding.

Clutch does not slip.
Shifts fine when driving normal.

Very unusual. Maybe you should drain the fluid and see if you've got some metal partials in it.

I'm no transmission specialist but it sounds like you've got an internal problem. Be prepared to have that transmission rebuilt or swap it out for another one.

Yes when you accelerate it is almost impossible to get it into 2nd gear..You drive normal speed it shifts smooth. It still shifts just fine but you can hear this low grinding sort of sound when you take off now and it gets louder as you get faster. Almost sounds like when your brakes wear out and are grinding against the rotors. And when you park it and get out it smells like hot trans fluid. Nothing is leaking and it is full. I checked it yesterday. There is no slipping so I don't know. I pretty much guessed I was going to have to pull the transmission, just didn`t really want to. I`m no expert either but I know driving it will probably hurt it a lot more.
