1999-2003 is it the best option for splitport conversion+ windstar intake?

I like the looks of its intake compared to the 1996-1998 windstar intake.
does it fit? it's still for the 3.8, i saw pictures of it in a windstar van and the intakes at the back of the engine, it looks like the bolt-holes might line up still though if I turned it around for the mustang.

I've also read that it's the year they had a return style fuel system, so I could keep my existing fuel system.

So I would need the lower intake, the upper intake and the fuel rail? Is there anything else I need.
I don't have a cowl hood yet, but I figured I would call my local salvage yard and see if they have on and ask how much it would be to pull the parts I want(there is a cheap cowl hood that would fit my mustang, I don't have much cash maybe I can barter and trade though.)

Also what kind of paint should I use if I wanted to paint the windstars intake?
I'd like to paint it bright blue to match my engine block.

The intake sticks up 2 1/2 " above the hood. The Windstar has better flow numbers than its predecessor but it produces the same hp/tq if you leave every thing factory.

You will need the lower intake because it has single runners that split. You should be able to use your fuel rail if you bend it, but I think the newer Windstar fuel rail is great for a split port swap. I am not 100% sure it will work. Someone on v6power bought one and a 4.2. He has not posted recently. You would have to cut up the metal heater core line (not sure what it is tech. called) the one with the bleeder valve on it. A 1/2 h pipe with some hoses and clamps would work. You might just be able to cut some off the top

Cool, so to use the better flow of the intake, should i port the heads and lower intake.
Do you have any experience with shaving the heads to gain compression?
I have stock compression pistons in it currently.

6shooter is the only person I know who has done the swap. Here is his thread. --->stangant's engine build thread - Page 46 - MustangForums.com

Just look on the last 2 pages.

You can port the lower intake. Just take some metal off the top curved area. A guy on v6power.net ported the newer lower Windstar and the flow number were amazing. He built a box for the upper half on a F-150 4.2.

I am not sure about compression ratios with milled heads. You should ask the machine shop who you will have do the work.

Here are SSMS ported heads. They do not go any smoother than 80 grit. I read about it in one of their articles.

Those are SSM heads?? The intake runners still have the casting marks in the runners as you can see the oil clinging to it
