Idle issues

Hey,

When I stop my car drops in rpm's to around 500 and feels like the car is going to die then goes back up to around 1,000 rpm's and continues to go back and forth till I start driving again.

Thank for any help!

Mine sits at 500 rpm when idle. I had a fluctuating idle when I needed my ignition coil to be changed

Hey miri, does your car vibrate really bad when it sits at 500 rpms? I'm assuming you are talking about when you're in D and stopped?

Air leak in vacuum lines or on air intake. Good place to start looking.

My idle is crappy too. Changed out the idle air control with one I found on a junk mustang and fixed it right up.

Any idea what would cause very crappy gas milage? I have new plugs, wires, oil change, air filter, and fuel filter. And I am averaging 15 miles per gallon... I do mostly highway driving and do not drive that hard.

Get 2 cans of Seafoam. Put one in gas tank, use second sucked through vacuum line or pcv line into intake slowly. Clean the intake & fuel system, it will guaranteed run much better. Cant say it will cure, but it will help. Running much too rich obviously.

Hmmm... No MIL's? Reset the computer? Thermostat operating?
Can't remember what causes a rich A/F mixture off the top of my head..

How about O2 Sensors? You don't have to get a check engine light for them to be bad. Throttle position sensor or IAC. Cleaning your EGR too. If the idle goes up and down maybe the IAC. Because was like that and at the same time I changed the DPFE4 Sensor. Amazon has them for cheap Amazon.com: Motorcraft DPFE4 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pressure Feedback Sensor: Automotive
