4.10 gears and mpg

I want to know how much gas mileage or mpg I will really lose if I install 4.10 gears on my 2004 V6 automatic Mustang?

Gas went wayyyyyyy down with 4.10 in my auto GT. Trust me with an auto v6 it will only be worse.

It's fun no doubt about that but if your even THINKING about mpg, find a different mod

Go with 3.73 gears. I did on my 2004 v6 and I get better gas mileage in the city, but you lose maybe 2-4mpg on the highway depending on what speed you drive. Honestly they, with the GT read end with tlok, are my favorite mod I've done. Get a shift kit for your automatic transmission, a CAI, and you'll need a tuner for the gears or your speedometer will be way off.

100hp nitrous would be stressful on the engine. Lots of mods I would prefer to that.

Right now I have a tuner, CAI, true dual exhaust, GT rear end with 3.73 gears, and a 65mm throttle body as far as speed goes. I have like a 7.6 0-60 which isn't bad.

For handling I purchased a strut tower brace and honestly it's amazing. I can go 20mph faster around curves and for only a little above 100 bucks it is honestly my go to recommendation for handling mods for anyone. The car feels so much better after it.

Get a 93 octane race tune from bama man! I had that and a CAI and I had a high 6 0-60 last summer. It makes an unreal difference

Get Subframe connectors, Panhard Bar and a torque arm and let me know.... The car handles like a completely different car after all that.

What I plan on doing with my car performance wise is first converting it to a true dual exhaust with of road x-pipes, Borla stinger muffler, cold air intake, shift kit + tuner, and maybe some gears. Look wise, 04 Cobra front bumper, GT hood, GT rear bumper, replace stock tail and had lights with aftermarket lights, 18" wheels, and tent the windows. Then a sound system. Subject to change or add more lol

Off road x-pipe is a must. I just got mine done a week or so ago and it sounds so good. I get compliments about it everywhere I go. I took off the cats as well when I did mine.

Yea ima do that but ima have them put the o2 sensors back on so the check engine light doesn't come on.

Well that's a dumb thing to say. You buy a mustang knowing it's not going to be the greatest on gas, but you certainly wouldn't want the worst.

So you're saying if your car got 1mpg because "mustang" you wouldn't be mad?

They remove the check engine light that it throws from having no cats. If you remove the cats I'm pretty sure you will have a check engine light even if you connect the 02 sensors back up.

I just did some research and learned that with the 4 speed auto with 4.10s, you can drive at 65mph at 2350. Roughly 350ish over stock 3.27s. Not bad at all for the huge boost and fun you'll get out of 4.10s.

Honestly it just depends on whether you spend most your time on the highway or in the city. Also if you care about a few less mpgs.

Yeah you will get better mpg in the city because of shorter shifts getting u into overdrive quickly. But a lot of people complain that 4.10s takes away a ton of mpg because they cant keep their foot off the pedal

Haha true. If you have a mustang you shouldnt care about mpg. People freak out over 4.10s like theyre gonna wipe your entire tank in 10 miles though. Then theres the top speed myth.....both are mostly false.

Yea top speed you can still have plenty of. My 4th tops at 110mph with my 4.10s, and I get 17mpg on the highway at 80mph at 3k rpm also. (GT)

Even driving at 80 on hwy with 3.27s you dont get good mpg. When i put in my 4.10s next week, i will continue to cruise at 65mph as usual. Im confident ill get over 20, probably 21-23 mpg, down from high 20s stock. (v6)

Honestly who even cares about the top speed unless you live near the autobahn. It's all about the 0-60 if you're racing friends on the street :p

Also, with all my mods I gained about 6+ mpg maybe more when I don't accelerate fast (hard not to). So I figured a few lost on the highway wouldn't hurt.
