Odometer cuts in and out

2001 mustang v6
Sometimes my odometer gauge goes black while I drive and randomly cuts on later. It still keeps up with the miles I'm traveling though. Anybody have any idea why this is going on? Thanks

The only way I know to fix the problem is to replace the cluster. People repair them on Ebay and Craigslist. But the car will not run with the cluster removed.

Check the back of the cluster and do the wiggle test on the harness connector or check for any resistance within the wiring harness, ex..corrosion, signs of burned wiring

Interesting my 2001 does the same thing. Could this cause any problem later on if not repaired?

Mine did it for 40,000 miles before I replaced the cluster. I did not have any other problems.
