Taylor Helix throttle body spacer

Anyone try this on their six? Put it on today and I find it awesome. Adds whistle to the throttle body and tone to the exhaust. Acceleration comes easier too.

I use to think these were bs. I bought one and keep it for months without installing it. But after installed I was a changed man.

Gonna have to call shenanigans. There's mountains of evidence that they don't do what they say they do. What DOES happen is you get a small amount of low end power from the swirling effect, BUT this creates turbulence in the intake's plenum and chokes it off on the upper end of the power band. You lose more overall than you gain.

These were meant for pickups that needed a bit more low-end grunt for towing.

There's been plenty of discussions on that topic. Some say its great, others say its crap. The engine is an air pump, doesnt it make sense to want more air in?

It doesn't increase your airflow. It's drilled to "swirl" the air that's already coming in to try to increase the pressure, which it does....at first. But like I said, this creates turbulent air in the intake plenum which chokes the engine on the high end.

Here's an explanation that might help:

Eh, if you like it go for it, I'm just saying you're sacrificing high end power for a small low end.

Also from your own article, since the 3.8L has Multi-Port Injection:

Type of Engine
These spacers mainly benefit older engines. In particular, those with fuel injection systems that have the fuel go directly into the throttle body, where it then mixes with air before going into the combustion chamber. It also can help with carburetor systems. However, if the vehicle has a multi-port fuel injection system or other top of the line system, then that small change in the air vortex will not make any difference to the performance, torque or horsepower. Therefore, before you go out and purchase a spacer, make sure your engine can actually benefit from having this upgrade.

I did at one time, and all it added was a slight whistling noise. That being said, the 3.7 and the 3.8 are very different engines.

Cause the more I search, more it makes sense. Some companies even tested it out on dynos with gains...

The spacer add 200 rpms on my factory tune and my street tune now gets a cell saying that my car is running lean. With the mods I have sooner or later a new weakness always occurs. The box on the spacer says it responds at 3500 rpms+.

You do not have to buy a tuner because you bought a throttle body spacer. But I would recommend buying a tuner. It is one of the better mods. Some mods are not worth buying for minor gains.

I am getting a lean code..........meaning the car is running lean. More air and not enough fuel makes the car run lean. Eventually I will pay $100 for a new tune. Bama does not tune for the 4.2 intake.
