Is this a problem?

I went out of town for a couple weeks and my car sat in the garage. When I came back and started it up my exhaust was popping a lot more than usual and the engine just didn't sound the same. I haven't drove it anywhere because I don't want to damage anything. Is this a problem or is it just because I haven't started the car in a while?
