Straight pipes without any cats will give you a lot of hp but they are loud & illegal..
With the cats you'll still get the loudness just not as much hp
Not really, even an entire cat back system and Off road X pipes yield very little gains on stock V6 cars. Although headers will help power noticeable.
The main reason why people do exhaust is for sound. Unless you have forced induction or N20 the stock exhaust just isn't really a restriction. Similar to the Intake on these cars.
Ford actually did a really good job designing the intake and exhaust on the V6 cars to where aftermarket parts yield little to no gains.
I'd leave the exhaust exactly the way you have it.
That's probably one of the best setups you can have on the 3.8's.
Imo the sixes sound way better when they have chambered mufflers and some type of midpipe, preferably an h-pipe or pro chamber.
Straight pipes, x-pipes, and straight thru mufflers tend to make the v6's sound raspy and high pitched, which to must of us doesn't sound right on a mustang.
A chambered muffler uses a series of chambers and/or baffles to produce that rumbling sound, boost exhaust flow, and regulate decibels to some degree.
A prochamber is essentially a fancy, enclosed h-pipe that balances the exhaust gases similar to an x-pipe, but produces more of a deep mellow tone rather than a raspy tone.
Honestly I'd stick with the normal h-pipe on the v6. The advantages of a prochamber are really only noticeable on the v8's, and even the 2v 4.6's are questionable.
Imo not worth the extra cost vs an off road h-pipe. Falls right in between an o/r h-pipe and a catted one price wise.
