04 40th anniversary v6

Is it better to buy a gt rear end with 8.8 gears or just to make my stock rear into a 3.73 gears & get a tlok ?

Look deep inside and ask yourself "am I going to pay large amounts of $ to add power to a 10 year old v6 to the point it's going to need an 8.8 rear?"

If yes, find an 8.8
If no, you're going to be fine with the 7.5. If you're going to end up adding just a few boltons there's no point to getting an 8.8, the power your car will make won't be close to needing a stronger rear end.

From AM it cost the same amount to make it 3.73 & tlok. I found a gt rear end with 8.8's for the same amount of money that's why I'm asking

I mean is the 8.8 even going to fit my v6 ? Or am I going to need something else in order for it to fit? I hear it's going to fit just fine & then others are saying I need to make adjustments for the 31 spline?

An 8.8" rear from a 99-04 solid rear mustang will directly drop into your 04 v6.
Factory 99-04's have quad shocks so if you get the rear and the quad shocks you can put them on too. The mounting holes are on the v6 cars.

If you can find a great deal on a complete rearend then go for it. Unless you know the exact condition of the rearend I'd plan on cracking it open and rebuilding the tlok and giving it some fresh gear oil.
