Oil leaking at filter.

Hi guys,

So i have a 2001 v6 mustang that appears to be leaking oil just above the oil filter. I did some reading about the filter adapter gasket, but apparently this only applies to the gt's? If so where do I start to troubleshoot mine?

Make sure its tight enough (hand tight) and that you didnt leave the gasket from the last filter. That actually happened to me fml

I had a defective oil filter once (Purolator) that would not seal. Didn't seem to matter how tight I got it. Finally replaced it with a Fram, and the leak stopped. After removal, it wasn't obvious to me what was wrong with the Purolator filter or why it was leaking, but it was the 3rd time I've had trouble with their filters and don't use them any more.

So long story short, don't overlook the possibility of a defective filter.

This is interesting because that the same filter i use. I investigated further and it appears to leak right along the ridge of the filter and there's also oil by that allen head socket just above the filter mount.

Every time I change oil I make sure the surface is clean so im certain there's no gasket material there.

what they said. Most common is leaving the old gasket but bad filters happen.

side note: I talked with someone at the market the other day and Anti-Nowhere League is still touring

I would remove the filter, screw on another, start the engine and see if the leak is gone.

Don't foget to re-check the fill level after changing the filter.
