V6 3.9 2004 ltr Intake Manifold

Hi All,
My '04 3.9 ltr was throwing a p2004 error code for "intake manifold runner control stuck open". I took it in to get professionally diagnosed and they told me the intake manifold was cracked as well as the solenoid broken. With the cost I'm going to do the work myself and I can find a replacement Intake manifold/Gasket online easy enough.

However I am having a heck of a time finding a "Intake Manifold Runner Control Motor" (IMRC motor) which they said was also broken. I see them online for an '03 Taurus but nothing for a mustang. I've checked Amazon, ebay, Rock Auto ect. Does anyone know where I can find this thing (or if I even actually need one????).

Thank you,
-Joe

You can probably get one at your local parts store but the dealer will charge an arm and a leg for it. They always do...

Which parts store did you try? If you don't mind me asking?

Just O'riley auto parts, now that you mention it I think they might be regional in the Midwest. I'll check Nappa/Autozone ect.

Thanks,

In my area if oriellys (my shops go to parts store) we try carquest which is a underling to advance auto and try going to someone who has a world pack account and see if they offer it. We've been using world pack a lot these past couple of months.

V6 3.9 2004 ltr Intake Manifold

I had this error too. My runner rod had popped out of its grommet on the bottom of the pass side. A few days ago I managed to replace the grommet with a "door lock rod kit" that had an identical one in it and put the runner rod back in. It now works the way it's supposed to. Thankfully nothing else was wrong with it

Hi Ryan,
Hmm that's interesting, did you notice and sort of "clicking"sound (like a solenoid turning inappropriately)? Also if you would happen tohave a picture of the area on the engine where you access that I would greatly appreciateit.
Thank you!!

I could hear a small clicking sound with the hood open, very faint. Also, sorry I do not have a picture with the intake off but it is right behind and below the intake. I would have taken photos while doing it if I had known you could use them. If you'd like, I can try to squeeze my phone back there take a photo of the actual rod if that's what you need to see

This video helped me understand what was wrong with my car when I first got my CEL. Also, this video has a nice view of everything you need to see.
