Wheels man. I was the same way. Wheels make your car look totally different.

Front lip, lowering springs, caster camber plates. Cheap, it works and makes the car look like a whole new car.

18's really fill out the wheel wells in our cars when lowered. Click image for larger version

I sometimes take my cousin with me to school. He weighs close to 300 pounds.

Plus on the weekends I always go out with a few people so I don't want to scrape or rub with 18s and a 1.5 drop

Not sure of this rubbing I hear about people talking about on new edges. You can lower your car about 3" and depending on what off set your wheels are and the tire size 35-40 with 18's you won't have an issue. If you have a 40 sidewall on the front on 18's you'll probably run at a 3" drop. My wheels are tucked under the fender but I had to roll mine because I'm on coilovers, but that's a different ball game.
