Roll cage

Does anyone here have a 94-98 v6 with a roll cage? I was thinking about getting one for my convertable because we all know the soft top provides little to no protection and the that's not how I wanna die lol. Could anyone give me any pointers for what to look for in a roll cage? Also could I cut out one of the cross bars to allow back seat passengers?

With an actual cage you will not have anyone in the back seats. I've never seen a cage that allowed anyone back there.

If you did want to keep it though then you can do a normal roll bar.

But how much protection does the roll bar add?

Couldn't passengers still sit in the back with this?

Most bars that places like AM sell are usually visual bars. You can get an actual weld in bar, just like a cage but it's that single section instead. Just don't roll the car at 100+

I know it's just a v6 but my worry is coming of steep back roads by me and flipping it

Yea that I wouldn't put anyone in the back seat. Can't do it safely.

Notice the bar going across behind the front seats? And then the bars that'll be next to the people's heads in the back seats?

That's the bar I was talking about if you could take out behind the seats and yeah that makes but could you put the foam around the bars

You could put foam around the bars. And it's possible to have the horizontal one removable. It'll be in the gray area for if it's legal or not though. If you are worried about just going through back roads and accidentally going off, unless it's an extreme drop then a normal roll bar would be fine. I've seen worse happen without one.

Oh okay. I'm just looking for something that can handle the weight of the car upside down. Could a roll bar handle that? And what would be illegal about that?

The exposed bars next to people's heads. Even if padded are usually not really that legal. I say just ditch the back seats and put an actual cage in.

It says it allows easy access to back seats for passengers

I'd need to see picture of it installed to better gauge it.

That'll work.... Generally those ones are for appearance, but they will indeed at least do something for protection in the case of a roll over.
