axle swap

Finally found a rear end for my V6. Guy is parting out a 2001 GT and I can have the rear end for $250. Should fit fine, right? Anything I should be looking for when I pick it up?

Meanwhile, I have good, used 7.5 traction lock I never installed... Maybe one of the local 4x4 guys will want to buy it.

It will bolt directly in, no problem. Brakes, axles, mounting points are all the same.

Unless you know the exact mileage of the differential and how the car was treated (beat on, tons of burnouts etc), I would plan on cracking it open and inspecting the differential at a minimum. There's a good chance you'll have to get a bearing rebuild kit and/or a tlok rebuild kit. The rebuild kits run ~$80-100.

If it is a higher mileage unit I would try to negotiate a lower price. If you do a rebuild kit it may also be a good time to get different gears if it still has the factory 3.27's.

Car has 130k on the odometer. Guy is doing a Mach 1 build and parting out a running driving gt. Cheapest 8.8 I've found here is $450 with 200k miles, so this seems a bargain to me. I already have fresh gear oil and modifier I had planned for the 7.5 tlok install, so at least that will happen. The 3.27 gears are an improvement over what I have so if everything is OK I'll leave until it needs to be replaced. Thanks for the feedback.

Well if a 3.27 is an improvement then you have a 94-98 car with the 2.73's?

If that is the case the 99-04 rear will still bolt in but the outer LCA bolts (on the torque box side) are larger on the 99-04 so you will need to drill out the hole locations on your LCA's.

Also the 99-04 is ~.75" wider on each side. If you run or plan on running wider tires like 315's with a lowered stance you may have to roll the fenders.

Good to know. Car is lowered but don't plan on going that wide. Yes, I have 2.73s
