adding a 4wire trailer lights - Help

My son and I want to take the bass boat with the V6 2005 mustang. I am adding a hitch. I really need help with the wiring of the 4wire. Could some one please help me. I know that I have to splice but I don't know where or the color combinations for the rear lights. All help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

Re: adding a 4wire trailer lights - Help

Damn !!!! Never have I seen a user live up to their screen name like you have only a yoyofruity would use a stang for towing

the voltage going to the tailights on mustang is not enough to run trailer lights.
taillights are controlled by a cpu and only 1 volt goes to the taillights.
You'll have to run relays with a power wire going to the battery and use this wire for the trailer lights

you will probably need a wire tester or a wire listing~ im sure its been done so there should be some information with the hitch available to you if its made for your vehicle.

Re: adding a 4wire trailer lights - Help

The two things my 6 year old and I love to do is ride in the Stang with the top down and fish. So I am combining them.
I am hoping for a wire listing and any advice from anyone that has done this or would know how.
Thanks.

Re: adding a 4wire trailer lights - Help

like it was stated before, ther is not enough voltage to run a whole trailer, next thing, your rear shocks are extremely under rated for a bass boat..you will blow them out very quickly and probably over work your rear coil springs, where the car will sag in the rear even without the boat on it....i dont reccommend it

that being said, you can run them using relays and using the wires directly off of the tail lights as driver wires for the relays, gonna take 4 relays, a large power wire from 30 amp fused source and a good bit of wiring know-how.

Re: adding a 4wire trailer lights - Help

Mustang don't have a strong enough mounting point for a towing hitch. Safe towing is a chassis/ drivetrain issue. You need extra transmission cooling, extra electrical power, heavy duty brakes and heavy duty suspension. Mustang tow rating is about 1000lbs. you may have enough power to pull it. But but in an emergency situation you won't be able to stop.

And it has a wiring harness in the hatch. 105 hp, I'm guessing it was to pull a red rider wagon.

i think a 5th wheel on the toof, and convert the bassboat to a gooseneck, that way it even distributes the weight on the suspension

It's on the TODO list when I give the car a good once over and a tuneup.

The boat and trailer will be under 1000lbs.
Can we get past that and help me understand the wiring?
Thanks

Re: adding a 4wire trailer lights - Help

ok,it wont be bad if you know how to wire relays, just use the wires going to the bulb on the drivers side as the trigger power wires on the relay, ground the other side, and run a strong 6-9V power source through the relay for your main power, you have to do that for all of the 4 wires, its kinda difficult to explain without actually doing it,

if you need further information on wiring the relays, i can draw you a picture using paint, but its gonna be hilarious looking

2. if i dont have money for truck i dont need a car trailer
3. renting truck and trailer is expensive and stupid if the only reason i need it is to haul tires and tools with my car.
4. i wouldnt expect you straight line people to understand anyway since yall are so one way minded. im not hauling 2 tires, its 4 and its not tires you would wanna ride on the street like street et's. here are the tires - Hoosier A6
