underdrive pulley

Excuse my incompetence, but what in the hell is an underdrive pulley and what does it do?

1) do you really need to attach a pic of your car in every post? Just shrink it down and put it in your sig.

2) And underdrive pulley does just that, it underdrives your accessories by ~25%, so they spin slower and create less drag on your engine. This frees up ~8rwhp.

ok thanks. Now if it underdrives my accessories, how will that affect important stuff like the alternator and my supercharger?

It wont, with the MAC UDP I bought it came with a alt pulley to speed it up. Nothing will be effected. but if you have a supercharger you will loose some boost. I am not exactly sure how much.

you shouldn't/cant use one with a supercharger.

You will lose a good amount of boost since your are spinning your blower pulley ~25% slower.

The 8hp you would get from it N/A would be overcome by the amount of boost you lose from it.

but to what extent? to merely gain back the boost you lost form using an UDP.

And the extra pull a supercharger puts on your belt system may take away that ~8hp as it is.

Your better off just upping the boost

Thats why I think buying a supercharger under 10psi is a waste of money.

Nothing is a waste of money if you really think about it. We all pay what we think things are worth. If it is to high we dont buy it or keep shopping

1) Host the image somewhere (mustangmods.com is a popular place to do this)
2) type: (it doesn't have to be boldface, that's merely to set it apart) just as you would in a post.
3) check one of your old posts to see that it worked.

well I didnt know what an underdrive pulley was and when I found out that it underdrives belt components by 25% i was like forget that. IM me at racinchevy4life (excuse the sn, i used to have a chevy) and I will tell you about it and give u a link where to get it. The kit comes complete with everything u need for just under 3 grand, and trust me, the stock boost on it out of the box is plenty, but it can go more. Its very nice and totally worth it.

If you have, or plan on getting a Supercharger.... An underdrive pulley is a bad thing to get.

Yes you can use a udp with a blower but you will have to get an odp for your blower. Also, the 25% underdrive is relative to the size of the other accessory pulleys. The alt. is usually underdriven by 25% and the water pump by around 10%. Since you have a blower you don't need and udp. If you want more power you can get an odp for you blower for more boost if your engine can take it. In your case the only real advantage of having a udp is for extended accesory life.

The best place to get a SC is to look at the V6stang sales area. I bought mine from someone getting rid of their's. It comes in waves usually a month or 2 before Christmas people start selling stuff. I paid 1380 for the complete setup plug and play with intercooler.
