These specs are from Chiltons manual for a 3.8.

Main bearing caps.
Step 1. 37 ftlbs
Step 2. Rotate an additional 115 to 125 degrees.

Connecting rod caps.
Step 1. 15 to 18 ftlbs
Step 2. 30 to 33 ftlbs
Step 3. Rotate an additional 90 degrees.

thanks, but its a late 2004 3.9, manufacture date 03/04. is everything same as a 3.8? I don't know but NO ONE has specs for the 3.9. can't get local ford to even check for me. most people don't even know this motor exist. must be like the chevy 396 that they over bored to 402 to close out bad blocks?

I'm not sure. But I would expect that the torque specs are the same as the 3.8.
I suspect that my Chilton was printed around 2000, as there is no mention of the 3.9.
The latest model of 3.8 connecting rod (97-up) uses bolt on caps as opposed to the nut/stud setup on previous years.
If your engine has the later bolt-on rod caps, i would just follow the same procedure as the 3.8 engine.
